If you know me you know that I’m a lover for all things brunch. I have a catalog of brunch reviews and I am always looking to try new spots. Located in Unionville, A Corner Cafe is a coffee shop serving majority breakfast meals with some bowls, rolls, and desserts. Here is my A Corner Cafe review.
Walking in to the shop, it has a very minimalistic interior design. Open space with seats located around the perimeter of the shop with a long table space right at the center. The menu as mentioned consisted mostly of breakfast items with some bowls, rolls, desserts and snacks. I have a serious weakness for chicken and waffle and it’s been a while since I’ve had it. But this place had a fried chicken benny which I’ve never had before and I had to try. The fried chicken egg benny ($16.50) is served on light rye toasts, with salad and fries, baby spinach, fried chicken, poached eggs, and hollandaise. Traditionally an egg benny is served on an english muffin but this one was served on a rye toast.
My friend ordered a simple avocado toast ($9) an avocado spread with sundried tomato pesto, poached eggs, chili flakes, and on toasted light rye.
I asked for the hollandaise sauce on the side because sometimes these restaurants spread way more than what is actually needed. I really liked how light the fried chicken was. Not overseasoned or fried in too much batter or oil. It tasted like a healthy deep fried chicken if that’s a things. Though I liked the idea of a fried chicken benny, I ended up eating everything separately. To me, the poached egg with fried chicken and rye bread didn’t mesh together. They were great separately, but together, I didn’t enjoy it. The rye bread was a bit hard as well, a little on the stale side. I did enjoy the fried chicken and the fries as well. This dish is super filling.
As this is a coffee shop they had different drink but I ordered a simple coffee.
Overall I did enjoy the calm atmosphere and the fried chicken. I would love to try some of the other menu items.
Please let me know where I can find some bomb chicken and waffle or even another fried chicken benny. Feel free to follow me @foodiie.diary on Instagram for more food adventures!
