Alchemy Coffee: Shrimp Benny & Duck + Waffle

Alchemy Coffee brunch review foodiiediary

Alchemy Coffee is a small coffee and brunch spot located in Unionville. With the new COVID framework, Unionville is one of the cities that is allowed dine in with limited capacity. The interior is small, with a modern rustic decor, that offers a decent selection of brunch plates and drinks.

There are your typical brunch menu items: pancakes, American style breakfast, egg Benny, and omelette just to name a few. On their menu the two items that stuck out to me were the shrimp benny and the duck and waffle. Chicken and waffle move out the way there’s duck and waffle! And a shrimp benny sounded so good.

It’s a small cafe so we ordered and paid for our food at the counter, then our meals were brought to us to our seat. They have a nice selection of coffees, teas, and lattes as well. The food did not take long, in less than 10 minutes we had our meals on the table.

The shrimp benny came with house fries and salad ($16). The benny were shrimp cakes with corn, basil mayo, and sauteed peppers. This might have been one of the best bennys I’ve ever had. It had a very unique and different taste to your typical classic brunch benny.

I love a chicken and waffle dish. But, I’ve never had duck and waffle before. Actually, I can probably count on my fingers the amount of time I’ve had duck, definitely under 5. The Duck + Waffle ($19) came with duck confit, sunny side up egg, plum sauce, and a side of salad. The duck was a little bland for me. Wish it had a little bit more flavour. Everything else on the dish was good.

Overall I really enjoyed this cafe. Nice, small, and cozy place with a nice selection of food. Out of the two dishes I would pick the shrimp benny over the duck and waffle but there’s still a lot more on the menu to try. I have a growing playlist of brunch spots I’ve reviewed here.
